Henry Slaby, 1925-2009
REPORTED: July 26th, 2009

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Henry Slaby, a member of our Board of Directors for the past five years, on July 20.

A World War II veteran and survivor of Auschwitz, Mr. Slaby came to Canada in 1955, developing a prominent and thriving practice as a Chartered Accountant before retiring at the age of 80 in 2006.

Mr. Slaby was tireless in his work for many charities, community organizations and causes. Among them were Copernicus Lodge, the Catholic University of Lublin and our own Polish Orphans Charity.

In recognition of his years of service to others, Mr. Slaby was invested into the Order of St. Gregory the Great as a Knight Commander by Pope John Paul II in 2000.

"We extend our sincere condolences to Henry’s family and freinds", said Dr. Richarda Russ, president and CEO of the Polish Orphans Charity. "We valued him immensely as a colleague, and we will remember his important contributions."
