Ninth Ball Pologne Benefits Afghan Orphans
REPORTED: April 19th, 2009
The year 2009 saw the Polish Orphans Charity respond to its biggest challenge, as we directed our fundraising efforts towards helping the children of Afghanistan, in addition to helping orphans in Poland and elsewhere. Supported by the Embassy of Afghanistan, a substantial sum was raised for the cause of orphans everywhere at our ninth annual Ball Pologne, at Toronto's Royal Meridian King Edward Hotel, Sat. Apr. 18. The ball attracts hundreds of guests from diplomatic, business and political circles.
"Since both Poland and Canada are engaged in bringing peace to this country at a very steep price - we wanted to stress our concern for the orphans, victims of war in Afghanistan", said Dr. Richarda Russ, President of the Polish Orphans Charity, in her short remarks to the guests.
Honoured guests included the Hon. Lincoln Alexander, former Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario; the Hon. Habibullah Quaderi, Consul General of the Republic of Afghanistan; Piotr Ogrodzinski, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland; and a number of business and community leaders.
The Polish Orphans Charity’s corporate sponsors include AECON Co., Plan Group Inc., Le Royal Meridien King Edward Hotel, Polish Airline LOT, Max Moneta Investments, Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex, Expo Cruises and Tours, Hakim Rugs and The Globe and Mail.
